The new tools I’m using are a Leica D-Lux 5 camera and Photoshop CS5. The D-Lux 5 is a very nice evolutionary improvement over my older D-Lux 4. Photoshop CS5 offers a new breakthrough capability in its HDR Pro feature. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, and the idea here is to take several different exposures of a subject and then combine them into a single image. Very interesting effects can be achieved.
The images themselves are all about discovery, magic, and joy. They're about seeing spirit in unexpected places—in the facade of an ancient pump house and in and around old factory buildings.

The final HDR image features the woods and an ancient stonewall near our log cabin in New Hampshire. This is my latest attempt to capture the magic and the joy one experiences in these snowy woods. By the way, the tree with the leaves is a Beech, which often keeps its old leaves throughout the winter.
